Doreen Nash [Nee Reynolds]

now of Richmond Virginia USA – deceased 4th December 2014

I left Shalford after marriage in 1957 and just wonder if there is anybody left in Shalford who remembers me?
Who remembers going to the village hall and watching movies during the War, they always showed the newsreels on the fighting going on in Europe at that time, can’t remember what movies we saw, but we enjoyed going to them.

As a youngster I fell into the pond at Codham weir, and I have still never learnt to swim, after my “dip”, I was about 4 at the time, never liked my head under water since, fortunately one of my brothers got me out in time, it was at the floodgates there, so was quite deep.
Whilst at Shalford Primary School, going to the American base at Gt. Saling in their big trucks for a Christmas party, each child being given a toy.

When at Shalford with Kath O’Neil and Maureen Gunn used to follow the football team where ever they played, most of the games anyway, our mode of transportation was bicycles back then! I can name most of the players shown in the photograph from the 60’s with the Bowler Hatters collection.

Shalford Football Team approx. 1960

I got married to Keith in St Andrew’s Church Shalford and this year see’s our 53rd wedding anniversary, Keith was a USAF serviceman from Virginia near Richmond in the USA, Keith grew up on a tobacco farm but decided he didn’t want that type of life and joined the air force, retiring after 20 years, he then worked in a hospital in Richmond as an electrician for 20 years, but has now been retired for 10 years. He suffers from Alzheimer’s which we control with medication but we both enjoy the trips back home when we can.

Best wishes to everyone
