Shalford & The Hundred Parishes
Welcome to The Hundred Parishes, an initiative to raise awareness and enhance enjoyment of the rich and diverse heritage within an area of around 450 square miles of northwest Essex, northeast Hertfordshire and south Cambridgeshire, at the same time strengthening the protection of that heritage through a holistic approach to planning
Our aim is to achieve the kind of benefits more commonly associated with National Parks or Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty:
Raised awareness and improved information about the area’s character and history for both visitors and residents.
- More visitors, with consequent benefits for the rural economy.
- New Walk for Shalford added Nov 2020 – Shalford & Wethersfield 5.4 miles
Appropriate protection to ensure new developments are sympathetic with their surroundings.
Shalford Parish Council is a member of the Hundred Parishes Society, a registered charity whose main aim is to raise awareness of a large area of Essex, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire that includes Shalford. The Society’s website includes brief introductions to all its hundred parishes and provides lots of ideas for interesting things to see and do not far from home. Web Admin Notes: – Originally Shalford was excluded from the original launch of The Hundred Parishes, it was only by request we were included and our village has been squeezed on the extreme east of the region, possibly because of their Logo wood cut may have been created by Eric Raviloius, when living in Shalford
