About

What is Shalford Essex ?

We are a typical rural village in the southeast of England, some 50 miles from London, population approx. 780, with a mixture of 375 dwellings including affordable housing, some buildings are very old with thatched roofing.

Almost no local employment, most people need to travel, via motorways M11 to London or via Cambridge to Birmingham etc, or use British Rail from our local Braintree Railway Station to London that takes just on the 1 hour. Nearby we have Stansted Airport, far enough away that we do not suffer aircraft noise

We are fortunate that our local amenities include a village primary school and a vibrant village shop which is open 24/7.  Plus a local public house known as The George Shalford and St Andrew’s Parish Church

Our Shalford Village Hall has recently been completely refurbished including sound proofing and a new roof

We have numerous clubs and organisations and activities, including a History Society, Bowls, Art Group, Petanque, Tennis, Toddlers group, Sunday Football and many more, which are open for anybody to join
